Tar files starting with specific characters, How toBy Vinod at 2005-06-23 09:47:41
|
Ever ran into a situation where you want to tar files starting with characters say from d to k? Here is how to do it.
tar -cf tarfilename.tar [d-K]*
This will create a tar file named tarfilename.tar and will include files whose names are starting with any character from d to k.
Did you Notice the small d and capital K? if you put small k files starting with capital K will be left out so make sure that you put capital letter for the bigger one.
